William Wyld RI 1806-1809.Landscape and topographical painter, mainly in watercolour.Lived mostly in Paris where he became a close friend of Bonington who was an influence on his work.Exhibited mainly at NWS,also at RA 1852-54,and at BI.Elected ARI 1849RI 1879.Painted English and French landscapes and views,also in other parts of Europe,especially Venice.He played an important part in the development of watercolour in France.He was awarded two medals at the Salon,and given the Legion d’Honneur in 1855. ‘ Rochester on the River Medway’ although unsigned this work is attributed to the artist, image size 14x11 cms,, framed size
