Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sancai translates literally to three colours and refers to a Chinese ceramic decoration technique using lead-based glazes. Popularised during the Tang Dynasty (618907 AD), the technique typically incorporates amber, green, and cream or straw-coloured glazes over earthenware bodies.

These figures are produced using moulded or hand-modelled earthenware clay fired at low to medium temperatures. Metallic oxides, such as copper for green and iron for amber brown, are applied to create the fluid, polychrome glazed finish.

Authentic period pieces feature unglazed bases showing aged terra-cotta, microscopic glaze crazing, and signs of mineral iridescence or oxidisation from burial. Mid-20th-century reproductions often feature more consistent glazes and distinct firing marks.

Designers frequently use large glazed figures as sculptural focal points in foyers, empty alcoves, or flanking sideboards. Their warm tones of amber and forest green pair exceptionally well with dark wood furniture, natural leather, and rich textiles.

Glazed earthenware should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a gentle feather duster. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or immersing porous earthenware in water, as moisture can penetrate hairline cracks and damage the underlying body.
