Dealers Notes

Our stock includes early oak and walnut furniture from the 18th century, as well as more formal pieces from the Georgian period. Clocks, barometers and globes are complemented by Colonial cabinets, furniture and early arms. Their scientific instruments, which include early microscopes, telescopes and equipment such as sextants, provide a fascinating insight into the evolution of technology, whilst demonstrating fine artistry and craftsmanship. One of Hansord’s many exhibitions was entitled ‘From simplicity to complexity with a little eccentricity’ and this continues to be the guiding mantra behind their collection today.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A live steam model locomotive is a scaled-down railway engine powered by real steam, produced by heating water via an internal burner or spirit lamp rather than relying on electricity.

These models are constructed primarily from brass, copper, cast iron, and steel, ensuring heat resistance and structural integrity for the high-pressure boiler components.

Authentic period examples feature hand-loomed or machined metal components, solder joints, period livery transfers or hand-painted pinstriping, and functional pressure valves rather than modern plastic or decorative fittings.

Positioned on a dedicated wooden display track, a scale locomotive serves as a focal point on shelving, sideboards, or inside framed glass display cases within contemporary or traditional interiors.

Keep the metal surface dry and free of dust using a soft microfiber cloth, avoid abrasive cleaners on original paintwork, and lightly oil moving mechanical components to prevent oxidisation.
