Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Historically known as tables a petrir, these utilitarian pieces originated in rural French households during the 18th and 19th centuries. They were engineered specifically for mixing, kneading, and rising bread dough, often combining a flat work surface with an integrated storage bin or trough.

These tables were constructed from durable native European hardwoods capable of withstanding heavy daily use. Common timbers included walnut, oak, chestnut, and fruitwood, often joined using mortise and tenon joinery secured with wooden pegs.

Authentic period examples feature hand-planed timber surfaces, wooden peg joinery, and irregular plank widths on the top. Original storage compartments, functional lids or hatches, and authentic wear patterns from dough preparation further confirm period origin.

These versatile tables function exceptionally well as freestanding kitchen islands, generous hallway consoles, or sideboards in dining rooms. Their clean, functional profile bridges traditional rustic aesthetics and contemporary open-plan spaces.

Maintain timber hydration by applying a high-quality beeswax paste every six to twelve months along the grain. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources or high moisture to prevent plank shrinkage, and wipe spills immediately with a dry cloth.
