Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bobbin turning, also known as spool turning, originated in the seventeenth century across Europe. Woodworkers used a lathe to create repeating bulbous, spherical shapes along legs and stretchers, a technique commonly seen in Dutch, English, and Italian furniture design.

These pieces typically feature solid hardwood frames, such as walnut, oak, or beech, assembled using traditional mortise and tenon joinery. The upholstery often consists of woven damask, velvet, or tapestry fabrics secured with brass tacks or textile fringe.

Authentic period turned furniture displays subtle variations in the size and shape of the bobbin turnings due to hand-lathe crafting. Examining the underside of the frame for original timber wear, hand-cut joinery marks, and historic upholstery tacks can help verify age.

A pair of bobbin armchairs can be positioned flanking a fireplace, placed opposite a clean-lined sofa, or set in a formal hallway. The architectural turnings and rich upholstery add texture and historical contrast to contemporary colour schemes.

Dust the turned wood frame regularly using a soft, lint-free cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically to maintain the timber finish. Clean fabric upholstery with a low-suction vacuum attachment and address spills immediately with gentle spot cleaning.
