Pair of 1940 Robert Mouseman Thompson Brown Leather Chesterfield Armchairs

1920 - 1940
Description

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale this stunning fully restored pair of 1950’s hand dyed Cigar brown leather English oak Robert Mouseman Thompson armchairs

Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, it covers within the M25 only for the UK and local Europe only for international, if you would like an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll provide you with the exact price

If your looking at this listing then the chances are you know exactly what these chairs are. They are early mid century examples circa 1940-1950, made with every bit of style charm and charisma we’ve all come to love and admire from the Mouseman workshop

They are very good looking well made and comfortable armchairs, the leather is thick saddle hide upholstery which has been washed back and hand dyed this glorious cigar brown colour which is exclusive to my leather polishers, the frame is solid oak and has been traditionally French polished

The sale includes the original seat cushions and two new Chesterfield cushions which are feather filled and have Thomas Chippendale style floating buttons

There’s not really much more I can say, its is what it is, very rare, highly collectable and with the best colour in the world

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Robert Mouseman Thompson was a British furniture maker associated with the Arts and Crafts tradition, renowned for hand-adzed English oak construction, visible joinery, and carved mouse signatures.

Authentic pieces are crafted from seasoned English oak using traditional joinery methods, frequently upholstered with hand-laced thick leather hide and tufted seat cushions.

Authentic items feature hand-adzed timber surfaces showing distinct tool marks, solid mortise and tenon joinery, heavy leather lacing, and the signature carved mouse motif.

These structured oak armchairs suit heritage, rustic, and modern organic interiors, integrating well alongside natural wool textiles, stone architectural details, and muted neutral tones.

Treat the leather periodically with a dedicated nourish balm, clean the adzed oak with clear beeswax polish, and position the chairs away from direct heat sources to prevent timber warping.
