Description

19th Century burr walnut davenport, the sloping top has the original tan colour leather writing surface decorated with blind tooling, which lifts up to reveal a compartment with four drawers, two of which are dummy drawers, also on top there is a hinged lift up lid which opens up to reveal partitions for letters, pens, stamps etc. There are four working drawers on one side and four dummy drawers the other side, all with original wooden turned knob handles, the working drawers are mahogany lined, the front section fitted with a lovely burr walnut panel as well as the reverse of the desk, four decorative carved corner brackets to the front and raised on a shaped platform base terminating on turned feet. In excellent condition and having a lovely warm rich walnut colour. Circa 1860.

Martlesham Antiques is a family run business and has been trading since 1984. Located in Suffolk just outside Woodbridge, Martlesham Antiques is run from a spacious thatched cottage housing nine large showrooms with a vast adjacent car park.

Specialising in 18th and 19th Century furniture, together with creating custom hand-made furniture which is supplied to various interior designers, trade and the retail market. Every piece on the showroom floor is in excellent condition and ready to go straight into the buyers home or premises.

All of Martlesham Antiques furniture is hand polished by their own French polishers and restorers to a very high standard. We are also a member of LAPADA, the association of art and antiques.
