Georgian Rib-moulded Small Sweetmeat Glass Or Patch Stand

£355    $475    €416
This is a Georgian, English, rib-moulded balustroid sweetmeat glass or patch stand dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1740. It is the second time this glass has passed through our hands.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has a slightly wrythened rib-moulded double ogee-shaped bowl measuring 8.7 cm (3.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl sits on a short, knopped stem that ends in a panel-moulded foot which measures 5.5 cm (2.2 inches) in diameter. The glass is 6.2 cm (2.5 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is an old collector''s sticker on the underside of the foot.

Lead glass weighing in at 130 g. (~ 4 1/2 oz.).

Provenance: With us (May 2019). The Graham Slater Collection.
