Description

An Early 19th Jug by Turner.

The early 19th century jug with a reeded silver rim, hall marked for John Law, Sheffield 1800, over a horizontal reeded tall neck, before the rounded body, decorated in relief with a band of hanging vine leaves and grapes.

The main body decorated in relief with a classical scene of the young Mars, seated with a shield and spear, as Juno presents Neriene.

The scene surrounded by further relief decoration of trees and flowers.

The Jug mounted with reeded handle, finished with a spreading leaf bracket.

The lower body decorated to simulate a gather basket.

The underside impressed Turner, for John and William Turner.
