Size: 11ft 0in x 8ft 6in (335 x 260cm).Antique Afghan Turkmen carpet with traditional Tekke Turkmen gul design.Circa 1920.The carpet has six vertical rows of Tekke Turkmen style guls; this design of carpet was woven by the settled Turkmen people in the Andkhoy region of northern Afghanistan; the design is mainly associated with the villages of Daulatabad to the south and a number of smaller villages along the road to Mazar-i-Sharif. The carpet is of a very pleasing clear madder red colour with the design in indigo blue, ivory and burnt orange.
