Description

This beautiful little 'chanteh' or vanity-bag was found in the Khorassan region.

It was made by Kordi tribes in the region of Darreh Gaz around 1900 and, apart from a tiny stain on the plain-weave back, is in very good condition. The face of this charming chanteh is woven in complementary weft-weave with a beautiful array of natural colours, an area that was reknowned for the quality of its natural dyes until the early twentieth century. The original braided selvedges remain, forming a handle,
