Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in northern England during the eighteenth century, Westmorland chairs were regional vernacular seating designed with broad sledge runners or sled feet. Despite the modern term lawn chair, these pieces were intended for indoor domestic use within farmhouse hearths and rustic interiors.

These chairs were typically constructed from solid native English oak using pegged mortise and tenon joinery. Design elements frequently included turned spindles, carved crest rails, contoured armrests, and sledge bases for stability on uneven stone floors.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-planed timber surfaces, irregular wooden pegs, and natural oxidisation within the grain. Evidence of historic wear on the lower runners and shrinkage in the oak joints also indicate genuine period construction.

A dark oak armchair serves as a grounding accent piece when placed alongside contemporary minimalist upholstery or neutral wall palettes. The juxtaposition of historic carved woodwork and modern textiles creates depth within eclectic or traditional schemes.

Preserve the original finish by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the item away from direct heat sources and excessive moisture to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
