Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian button back chair is a mid-to-late 19th-century seating design characterised by deep button tufting across the backrest, low seat height, and carved timber legs, often crafted from mahogany or walnut.

These chairs were typically constructed with solid hardwood frames, such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood, filled with natural horsehair padding and coil springs, and upholstered in plush fabrics like velvet or damask.

Authentic pieces feature hand-carved solid hardwood timber, original brass or ceramic castors, hand-tied coil springs beneath the seat frame, and hand-stitched deep button upholstery rather than modern staple-gun construction.

Position the chair in a bedroom corner, reading nook, or living space alongside a contemporary side table and minimalist floor lamp to contrast historical detail with clean modern lines.

Vacuum the upholstery gently using a soft brush attachment, keep the wood frame nourished with natural beeswax polish, and position the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent fabric fading and timber drying.
