Description

A delightful late 19thC French ormolu (gilt brass) double hinged photo frame c1880. This quality ormolu double frame is connected by a central hinge. It can stand flat fronted or angled using the easel support behind. The frame stands on ball feet with a pair of well cast and defined ribbon surmounts. The glass inside is 7mm thick and chamfered. A photo is inserted by pulling the ribbon top upwards which lifts it above the glass with the hidden spring inside the back column. The video demonstrates the ingenious mechanism. The engineering, design and fine materials make this a quality example of French craftsmanship. The condition is very good for its age - a few nibbles on the corners of the glass, hidden by the frame. I have not over polished the ormolu surfaces so as to preserve the gilding so some antique patina is visible - it only confirms the authenticity.
