Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian gold split ring is a small, continuous spiralled wire loop crafted from gold, popular during the 18th and early 19th centuries. They were traditionally used to secure pocket watches, seal fobs, and charms onto watch chains or chatelaines.

Georgian split rings were typically constructed from solid 9ct, 14ct, or 18ct yellow gold, frequently decorated with hand-engraved floral, scroll, or chased patterns. The split design required precise tempering of the metal to maintain spring tension without losing structural integrity.

Authentic Georgian split rings feature hand-cut engravings or chasing, subtle signs of wear consistent with historical age, and a tight tension closure. Unlike modern machine-made rings, Georgian examples showcase unique artisan detailing and hand-drawn wire construction.

An antique gold split ring can be incorporated into modern jewellery as a functional connector to hold charms on a chain necklace or bracelet. It also serves as a decorative attachment point for vintage pocket watch fobs or standalone pendants.

Clean the gold ring gently using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush to remove accumulation from the engraved grooves. Avoid excessive strain when opening the coils to preserve the original spring tension and prevent metal fatigue.
