Large Oriental Carved Camphor Wood Chest
This Beautiful Carved Chest is made from Camphor Wood, for those of you who do not know camphor wood it looks a lot like Mahogany it is a hard wood which lends itself very well to carving.
However the main reason for using camphor wood is its fragrance it smells a bit like Eucalyptus and this most attractive of smells repels moths hence its common use in the best quality Blanket Boxes
The carvings are mainly of ships and pagodas, the chest is carved on every side, the handles are also carved with lucky storks, it has a large brass clasp on the front
The Chest is in good condition there is some age related shrinkage in the wood but this would have been present before the chest was made, it is 41” long x 18.5” high and 20” deep
