Japanese Silver Lined Iron Kogo ( Incense Container) By Yasuaki

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Steve Sly Japanese Works of Art

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this diminutive Meiji Period (1868-1912) iron incense container (Kogo) . The outer case of the charming Kogo is manufactured from hand beaten iron to produce the rather unusual scene of a striding wild boar, the iron further decorated with a silver tusk and gold eye, the inside of the incense container is fully silver lined. The underside bears the signaure and gold Kao for the artist Yasuaki. The container remains within its original tomobako that carries a label with the artist information as well as a description of the contents. A most charming and well executed iron kogo from the latter part of the 19th century.
