Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George II baluster tankard is an 18th-century silver drinking vessel produced during the reign of King George II (17271760). It features a distinct pear-shaped baluster body, a hinged domed lid, a sturdy scroll handle, and often a girdle or mid-rib moulding around the lower section.

These pieces were typically forged from sterling silver, comprising 92.5% pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Craftsmen raised the vessel body from a sheet of silver using hand-hammering techniques before attaching cast components such as the thumbpiece, handle, and foot.

Authentic pieces bear a set of British hallmarks stamped into the silver body or rim, including the makers mark, the leopards head for London (or other assay office mark), the lion passant indicating sterling purity, and a date letter corresponding to the George II era.

An antique silver tankard serves as a striking accent on a bar cart, sideboard, or mantelpiece. Displayed individually or grouped with other silver hollowware, its polished surface adds depth and reflective contrast to dark wood furniture or stone surfaces.

Clean gently with warm water and mild dish detergent, drying thoroughly with a soft microfibre cloth. Apply a non-abrasive silver polish sparingly to remove oxidisation, avoiding aggressive buffing over hallmarks or detailed castings.
