Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Sterling silver cigarette cases became prominent in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries as social smoking expanded. Crafted by silversmiths to protect cigarettes in pockets or handbags, these personal accessories evolved into status symbols displaying armorial crests, engine-turned patterns, or cloisonne enamel work.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from 925 sterling silver, composed of 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for durability. Decoration often incorporates vitreous enamel, which involves fusing powdered glass to the metal surface at high temperatures to create colourful, durable designs.

Authentic British sterling silver pieces feature a full set of official hallmarks stamped into the metal. These include the lion passant for sterling purity, an assay office mark (such as a leopard head for London or an anchor for Birmingham), a makers mark, and a date letter corresponding to the specific year of production.

Small silver cases make functional accent pieces when repurposed as business card holders on an office desk or displayed as decorative items on a desk tray. They are also styled within glass display domes, shallow shadow boxes, or placed atop stacked coffee table books.

Clean silver surfaces gently using a soft, non-abrasive silver polishing cloth while avoiding the enamelled areas. Do not submerge enamelled pieces in liquid chemical dips, as micro-cracks in the glass can allow fluid to seep underneath and damage the underlying silver foundation.
