Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the mid-18th century during the reign of King George II, a fold-over games table is a piece of occasional furniture designed specifically for card playing and social entertainment. These tables feature a hinged top that opens to double the surface area, supported by a swing-leg mechanism.

Craftsmen primarily used dense West Indian mahogany for its stability, rich grain patterns, and ability to take a high polish. Playing surfaces were frequently lined with wool baize, while drawer linings were constructed from secondary timbers such as oak or pine.

Authentic George II card tables feature hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed secondary timbers, and period-correct brass hardware with evidence of hand-casting. Distinctive features include turned legs terminating in pad feet, rounded protruding corners for holding candles, and genuine surface patination.

Position the table folded closed against a wall as a console or entry table, topped with a contemporary table lamp, ceramic vessel, or framed picture. Alternatively, open the table in an alcove or library space to serve as an accent piece for board games.

Maintain the timber by dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year. Keep the table away from direct heat sources and bright sunlight to prevent timber movement and uneven fading of the polished finish.
