Beautiful Orchid Painted Tazza Comport Thomas Moorcroft for E.j.d Bodley, C 1870

A beautiful hand painted tazza made by E.J.D Bodley circa 1870 in collaboration with Thomas Moorcroft.

Thomas Moorcroft was the father of William and a keen botanist and artist who received a silver medal for a watercolour of orchids and bamboo from the Department of Art and Science in 1875. His work bearing a resemblance to the design executer here can be seen in Atterbury's 'Moorcroft', Dennis and Edwards, 2005, pg.33. A number of his artworks were incorporated onto porcelain by E.J.D. Bodley and here we have one of these examples.

The tazza have elegant form beautifully enhanced by sophisticated decoration. A celadon background that perfectly complements the exquisite painting, and rims adorned in rich claret band in between gold trim with delicate beaded relief.

The tazza is marked on the reverse with a fractional pattern number, a characteristic feature of this manufacturer, and similar items have been documented and attributed in reference literature.

Dimensions: height – 8 cm, diameter – 24 cm.

Condition: excellent without any losses or repairs, no glaze crazing, no gold rub, just a couple or short superficial scratches to surface.
