A superb small brass candlestick from the late 16thc early 17thc....it stands on a wide flared base, and has a mid height drip pan, nicely shaped stem and deep candle socket, which is pierced with a round hole rather than a laterally rectangular hole, this helps you to date this attractive candlestick to the end of the 16thc and beginning of the 17thc....the solid stem is attached to the cast base and drip pan by being made as a tight ''drive-fit'' into the collar of the base centre and then a pointed punch was used to ''peen'' the stem and collar over a shaped rise in the base centre....the candlestick is in very good condition.
