Antique Edwardian Torsion Anniversary Clock

1900 - 1920
Description

The clock is manufactured from Brass, it has an enamel face and it is enclosed under its original glass dome.

Believed to be manufactured in Germany

This is a 400 day clock

Fully working and keeping good time

It can be viewed in the shop.

The reflection on the glass in the photographs gives a pink hue! However the glass is in superb “clear” condition , it’s simply my poor photography skills.

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A torsion anniversary clock, often referred to as a 400-day clock, utilises a rotating pendulum suspended by a thin flat wire to regulate time. Developed in the late nineteenth century and popularised during the Edwardian era, these timepieces were engineered to run for a full year on a single winding.

These clocks traditionally feature precision brass mechanical movements, brass pillars, and decorative finials housed beneath a blown glass dome. The dial face is commonly crafted from enamel or brass with clear Arabic or Roman numerals.

Authentic period pieces generally display makers marks or serial numbers stamped directly onto the rear movement plate. Examination of the suspension spring wire, hand-turned brass components, and original glass dome imperfections also assists in verification.

Positioned on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or study bookshelf, a brass dome clock serves as a focal point. It pairs effectively with modern minimalist decor or traditional dark wood interiors, adding mechanical texture and warm metallic tones.

Keep the clock on a level, stable surface free from vibration, as movement can disturb the delicate suspension spring. Clean the glass dome with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding abrasive chemical polishes on lacquered brass surfaces.
