Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Fireplace fenders were developed in the 18th and 19th centuries as low curbs placed around the hearth to retain stray cinders and ash. They also served as decorative architectural borders separating the open fire from the flooring.

Nineteenth-century fenders were typically constructed using rolled or sheet steel, wrought iron, and heavy cast brass mounts. Brass was frequently applied to top rails, corner plinths, and decorative scrollwork.

Authentic period fenders display hand-fitted joints, subtle casting irregularities on the undersides of brass elements, and natural oxidisation on internal iron or steel surfaces. They also feature heavier gauge metal and hand-cut threads on fixings.

A period fender can be positioned around a traditional open hearth, a reclaimed stove installation, or a bioethanol burner to define the fireside area. It can also be integrated into modern living rooms as an architectural kerb around a decorative alcove.

Steel components should be kept dry and dusted with a soft cloth, followed by an occasional thin application of microcrystalline wax to prevent surface rust. Brass mounts can be gently cleaned with dedicated metal polish or left unpolished to maintain their natural patina.
