Antique English Figural Sugar Basket - Lions C.1880

Description

A stunning Victorian silver plated sugar basket, perfect for nuts, chocolates, preserves and of course sugar!

A most unusual design with the bowl being made from silver plate also with a lavish gilded interior, this bowl is easily removed from the bowl's cradle.

The cradle is exceptional with four Lion's heads with garlands in between, this all stands on a highly decorative fluted foot.

The underside is struck with the silversmith's hallmark PGS, which I am unable to identify. Excellent condition, the rim diameter measuring 4 1/2", the bowl standing 4" tall and 7" to top of swing handle.
