Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Staffordshire saltglaze stoneware is a light-coloured English ceramic developed during the early to mid-18th century. It is known for its durable body and distinctive orange-peel textured glaze created by introducing common salt into the kiln during firing.

Potters mixed local ball clay with calcined flint to create a white, vitreous body capable of withstanding high firing temperatures. Sodium from salt thrown into the red-hot kiln fused with silica in the clay to form a hard, glass-like sodium silicate glaze.

Authentic pieces exhibit a characteristic pitted surface reminiscent of orange peel, sharp relief-moulded details inspired by silverwork, and a lightweight, translucent body when held to light. They frequently feature hand-cut latticework or lobed rims typical of mid-18th-century production.

Display these historical ceramic pieces on a plate stand within a glazed cabinet, along a mantelpiece, or mounted in a wall grouping to highlight their intricate relief patterns and neutral ivory tones.

Clean gently with warm water and mild non-abrasive dish soap using a soft cloth, avoiding soakings that could compromise existing repairs. Keep away from harsh chemicals or temperature extremes to prevent micro-cracking.
