ABOUT

Walter Roche (1847–1921) was an Irish-born sculptor active in London during the late 19th century. Born in Versailles, France, to a British clergyman, Roche worked in the Secretary of the Post Office while pursuing his passion for sculpture. Between 1878 and 1888, he exhibited approximately twenty-three works at the Royal Academy Summer Show, primarily focusing on sporting and animal themes. His bronzes, often cast by the Coalbrookdale Foundry, are noted for their exceptional quality. Roche shared a studio with his brother, Mark, and William Frederick Spencer, both sculptors.
