Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Safety stand rocking horses were developed in the late 19th century as an alternative to bow rockers, utilising a stationary glider frame that prevented tipping and preserved floor surfaces. Prominent British makers produced these pieces throughout the early 20th century for commercial and domestic use.

These items were typically carved from seasoned timber, such as pine or beech, and coated in gesso before being painted in dapple grey or brown finishes. Saddlery was constructed using genuine leather, iron stirrups, horsehair for manes and tails, and iron swing bars for the rocking mechanism.

Authentic pieces often feature distinct head profiles with stylised painted eyes, turned wooden pillars on the safety frame, and cast iron swing brackets. Certain manufacturers marked their work with paper transfers or stamped model names on the central stretcher rail or underbelly.

An antique rocking horse functions as a focal accent piece when placed in an empty corner, bay window, or childs bedroom. Pairing the item alongside neutral walls and natural timber floorboards highlights its painted patina and structural timber frame.

Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and fluctuating humidity to prevent timber from cracking or warping. Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and treat original leather tack with a neutral leather preserver to maintain flexibility without darkening the material.
