Description

An extremely fine and rare bronze by Francois Theodore Devaulx depicting the signing of the Magna Carta in June 1215. It depicts King John in the centre signing the Magna Carta flanked by The Archbishop of Canterbury on th left and the Earl of Albemarle on the right.

A superb casting with dark brown patination.

Francois Devaulx was born in Paris in 1808 and studied at the Ecole des beaux-Arts in Paris. He was a member of the Salon des Artistes Francais from 1845.
