A beautiful etching signed in pencil by Anne Goldthwaite (1869-1944) of Polo players in a bespoke frame.

Anne Goldthwaite was a prominent painter, print-maker and advocate for women''s rights. Born in Montgomery, Alabama in 1869 she grew up in Dallas, Texas. She studied at the National Academy of Design from 1903-6 specialising in painting and etching. She then moved to Paris and through her friendship with Gertrude Stein she met avant-garde artists such as Cezanne, Matisse and Picasso. In 1911 she became President of the American Women''s Art Association and this prefigured her staunch support for women''s suffrage on her return to America. Frequently exhibiting and selling her work to suppport the fight for universal suffrage.
Her work is held in the Metrpolitan Museum of New York, The Whitney Museum of American Art and The Philadelphia Museum of Art. The Met and Yale hold examples of this print.
