Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Mercury glass, or silvered glass, features double-walled glass blown with a liquid silvering solution sealed between the layers to create a reflective mirror finish. Popular during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was frequently used for decorative lighting shades and reflective ceiling vessels.

Pendant lights from the 1920s typically combined hand-blown or moulded glass shades with heavy brass or copper gallery fittings. Mercury glass shades featured inner silvering applied through small access openings that were subsequently sealed against atmospheric exposure.

Authentic antique mercury glass exhibits natural foxing, dark spots, or flake marks where the internal silvering has oxidised over time. Original fixtures also feature patinated brass components and double-walled blown glass rather than modern surface-applied metallic paint.

Suspended above a dining table, kitchen island, or entrance hallway, a mercury glass pendant provides diffused light alongside reflective warmth. It pairs effectively with natural timber, exposed brickwork, or dark painted surfaces.

Clean the exterior surface gently with a dry microfibre cloth or a mild, non-abrasive glass cleaner applied to the cloth rather than the fixture. Avoid submerging the glass in liquid or using harsh solvents that could compromise sealed ports.
