17th Century Dutch Oil Portrait of a Noble Lady

17th century
Description

17th century oil on panel of a noble woman by follower of P. Moreelze. Moreelze was at Dutch artist (1571-1638) whose work is exhibited in various European galleries including the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Fitzwilliam in Cambridge.

The subject of this three quarter length portrait is a distinguished young woman wearing a red dress with profuse lace collar, plumped hat and jewelled chains. She faces forward with the hint of a smile and is obviously aware of her beauty. These features have been skillfully captured by the artist.

This 17th century portrait comes with a good provenance being in a private collection in London until 1906 when it was sold. It has since been privately owned and for the last 20 years has been in a private collection in Cheshire.

The portrait is housed in a decorative frame which compliments it beautifully. It is painted on an oak panel and is in very good condition.

This early Dutch painting is an excellent combination of historic interest, artistic merit and decorative appeal.
