Early Georgian Blue & White Buffalo Bread Stand C1800

Description

This unusual EARLY GEORGIAN BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFER PRINTED BREAD STAND, in the BUFFALO PATTERN, dates from circa 1800.

The Chinoiserie design shows Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism, mounted on a Buffalo, making his way to ‘the regions beyond’.

The BREAD STAND is in overall good condition with no cracks or restoration. There are two undeveloped chips, one to the top rim and one to the foot rim (please see photographs).

It is unusual to find a Blue and White Transfer Bread Plate made around 1800. The most common are from the 1840s.
