Prometheus Antiques has dated this Victorian Farmyard Oil Painting to the 1880s.
The quality of the work is particularly good in the depiction of the animals which are wonderfully observed. The painting is signed to the lower right ‘A.C.Dodd’. Arthur Charles Dodd was a noted painted from Tunbridge Wells of hunting, animal, landscape and rustic scenes. He exhibited prolifically and widely around the country including at The Royal Academy, The Royal Society of British Artists, Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow and Birmingham, his work is routed in the rural romantic realism of the later nineteenth century. The painting is in good original condition with a couple of small pieces of touching in. The gilt frame is of substantial size and great quality; it is the original and has had some restoration over the years and is overgilt. The whole is a wonderful painting with a sense of rural peace and tranquillity. C.1880.
