The sculpture is partially polychrome and depicts “The Pamoison de la Vierge” also known as the “Swooning Virgin” this scene portrays the Virgin Mary fainting or swooning, usually from grief, at the deposition of Christ from the cross. The sculpture features three figures and several cherubic faces at the top.
 
One figure is supporting the fainting Virgin Mary, while another figure, likely representing Christ, is being held by the Virgin. This scene is a common motif in Christian art, particularly during the medieval period. 
 
This is an extremely heavy piece it is is carved in oak it his 12” thick, 84” tall and 55” wide, it has some visible colour on the relief, a wonderful piece with no “restoration”
