Elegant Regency French Empire-style Sofa, Circa 1820

Description

An elegant and surprisingly comfortable Regency sofa in the French Empire taste, with finely carved and painted decoration, the padded back surmounted by a garland and flanked by fluted supports with turned finials, over a padded seat with open arms on fluted supports, above a frieze decorated with a running floral design and raised on carved and fluted legs.

This piece has come from a Welsh Country House and the paintwork is slightly grubby and chipped in places.

(Tiny piece of carving missing from the frieze below the seat, and a tiny repair to part of the carving on the side of the back - both shown in the close-ups.)
