Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Edwardian rings produced around 1900 to 1915 often feature delicate metalwork, cluster settings, and scrollwork detailing. Designers frequently set natural rubies alongside small diamond accents in high-karat yellow gold or platinum mounts.

Rings from this period were commonly crafted in 18ct yellow gold, hallmarked by official assay offices such as Chester, Birmingham, or London. Central colored gemstones like rubies or sapphires were paired with rose-cut or old European-cut diamonds.

Authentic British pieces from this era feature full hallmarks stamped inside the band, including a purity mark, assay town mark, and date letter. Magnification should reveal period-appropriate hand-carving and gemstone cutting styles.

An antique ruby ring can be worn as a stand-alone focal piece on the right hand or stacked alongside minimalist gold bands to blend historic craftsmanship with modern aesthetic tastes.

Clean the ring using warm water, mild soap, and a soft-bristled brush, avoiding harsh chemicals or ultrasonic cleaners that may loosen prong settings. Store the piece separately in a fabric-lined box to prevent surface scratches on the gold and gemstones.
