Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco opalescent glass is a specialized moulded art glass produced predominantly in France during the 1920s and 1930s. It contains chemical additives such as bone ash or fluorine compounds that react to heat during cooling, creating a translucent, milky blue and amber optical effect.

Pieces were created using steel moulds into which molten glass was pressed or blown. Controlled temperature variations during the cooling process caused chemical phase separation within the glass matrix, producing the characteristic iridescence and opalescence along high-relief design details.

Authentic period pieces exhibit precise moulded detail, sharp definition along relief elements, and specific molded or acid-etched maker marks. Genuine opalescence shifts naturally from milky light blue on translucent areas to warm orange or amber when viewed against direct light.

Opalescent glass items perform best when positioned where ambient or direct natural light can pass through them, such as on a sideboard top, open shelf, or glass display cabinet. Placing the piece against a dark backdrop emphasizes its luminous blue tones.

Wash gently by hand using lukewarm water and a mild detergent, using a soft microfibre cloth to clean recessed details. Avoid abrasive sponges, rapid thermal changes, and dishwasher cleaning, as these can dull the surface finish or induce thermal shock fractures.
