Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Popularised during the 18th and 19th centuries, a tripod table is a compact occasional table supported by a central turned pedestal resting on three splayed legs. These functional designs were historically used as portable stands for serving tea, holding candles, or displaying items.

These tables were typically crafted from solid mahogany or dense mahogany veneers, valued for their durability and rich timber grain. Standard construction features turned central columns, hand-dovetailed joining blocks, and legs secured to the base column with iron brackets or wooden blocks.

Authentic period examples often exhibit slight timber shrinkage across the top creating a subtle oval shape, along with hand-planed marks on the underside. Look for original brass latches on tilt-top mechanisms, natural age patination around the feet, and hand-carved joint details.

Place the table beside an armchair or sofa to serve as an elegant surface for modern lighting or modern ceramics. The compact three-legged footprint allows it to fit neatly into tight corners, reading alcoves, or beside entryway seating.

Dust the wood regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to preserve the timber patination. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent warping or splitting of the wood.
