Penderyn Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The hinged lids, labelled "Cigars" and "Cigarettes," open to reveal three small drinking glasses. A concealed button releases a hidden compartment at the base of the piece, which opens to reveal storage for games, including playing cards, cribbage boards, and counters. Fitted with side handles and a working lock, this is a practical and cleverly designed piece, typical of late 19th-century craftsmanship.
