Pair of Royal Copenhagen porcelain figures, Denmark, polychrome-enamel decorated Amager man’s and woman’s market costumes, model numbers 12102 & 12103, mounted on titled square bases with printed factory marks. Designed by Carl Martin-Hansen (1877–1941) as part of his Danish National Costumes series of 47 figures produced between 1906 and 1925. Martin-Hansen was celebrated for naturalistic characterisation in busts and public monuments; this series was among his greatest successes.
 
Girl (12103): Base inscription “Alyth .Pitter.Pitters.Datter.Torvedragt.Amager”
 
Dimensions: H 31cm × W12 cm × D 12 cm; Weight: 939g
 
Condition: Very small, virtually invisible nibbles on edges of three leaves in the basket; otherwise superb mint condition.
 
Man (12102): Base inscription “Jam.Hanseh.Shmidt.Torvedragt.Amager”
 
Dimensions: H 32cm × W 14cm × D12cm; Weight: 1096 g
 
Condition: Small chip on lower edge of base; part of hat glued; otherwise excellent antique condition.
