It's unbelievably what people do to beautiful antique rugs. This fantastic example has sadly had about 5cm cut out from the middle before being sewn back together. Without the cut, I've seen similar make north of £20,000 at auction when they occasionally come up. That is to say, this is a banger of a prayer rug! Great range of beautiful natural dyes, an experienced weaver has drawn out the 'Palmette medallion' lattice design without making it too stiff. Playful elements abound and despite the cut, it holds the eye remarkably well. A really great piece of art. Forget it's a rug, this has nothing to do with rugs and everything to do with great beauty from a distant culture. You will not find any other kind of art at this level, for this price.
