Portuguese Creamware Toby Jug, C. 1800.

Description

A rare Portuguese creamware Toby jug, late 18th / early 19th Century. Modelled as a traditional Toby jug, a seated man in 18th Century costume, holding a large mug in his right hand. Set upon a squared base, with chamfered corners, and having a large loop handle.

Decorated in coloured glazes, over a creamware body.

Height – 24.5 cm, 9 5/8”.

Width – 12 cm, 4 3/4”.

Depth – 19.5 cm, 7 3/4”.

Condition – Hairline crack to base, that does not penetrate the body. No restoration.
