Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Provincial commodes originated in regional France during the 18th century, combining utilitarian storage with decorative flourishes borrowed from Parisian court styles. Common features include native hardwood construction, serpentine or bow fronts, relief carvings of floral or foliate motifs, and cast brass drop handles.

These chests were typically constructed from solid European oak or regional fruitwoods due to their durability and dense grain structure. Internal drawer linings and back panels often used secondary woods like pine or poplar, while drawer pulls and escutcheon plates were cast in brass or bronze.

Authentic carved pieces feature crisp, varied depths in the relief carving, hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, and uneven drawer linings showing hand-plane marks. Age-related wear around keyholes and handle mountings, as well as natural timber shrinkage across wide panels, also indicate traditional construction.

Balance the heavy carved timber by placing the piece against a clean, neutral backdrop in a hallway, bedroom, or living area. Layer the top surface with modern ceramic vessels, a large wall mirror, or contemporary artwork to create a curated contrast between traditional craftsmanship and minimalist design.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry cloth, following the direction of the wood grain. Apply a high-quality natural beeswax polish twice a year to nourish the timber and retain its natural patina, taking care to clean excess wax out of detailed carvings with a soft-bristled brush.
