Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A needlework sampler is a piece of embroidery produced as a demonstration or study of needlework skills, featuring practice alphabets, decorative borders, and often the makers name and age. During the Victorian period, these were standard educational exercises for young women in schools and households across Britain.

Samplers from the 19th century were typically executed on linen, canvas, or wool scrim grounds using woollen yarn, silk threads, or cotton embroidery floss. Cross stitch and backstitch were the primary techniques utilised to construct lettering and decorative geometric borders.

Authentic Victorian samplers feature hand-stitched typography, natural fabric weave irregularities, and thread oxidation or fading consistent with age. Look for stitched signatures, dates, or ages, as well as period-appropriate framing techniques and materials like moulded or gilded wood.

Framed needlework samplers can be incorporated into modern spaces by hanging them in narrow wall niches, grouping them on gallery walls alongside period prints, or placing them above sideboards. Combining traditional textiles with minimalist backgrounds highlights their graphic typographic qualities and historic character.

Keep antique samplers out of direct sunlight to prevent fibre degradation and colour fading, ideally mounting them behind UV-protective glass. Maintain a stable indoor humidity level and avoid hanging textiles near direct heat sources or damp exterior walls.
