Early C19th late George III period mahogany library bookcase .
Capacious and elegant Georgian mahogany bookcase of restrained, uncomplicated design . The bar-glazed upper 2-door section having a centrally divided interior fitted with 6 adjustable mahogany-faced shelves to each side and divisions or pigeon-holes across the bottom . The cornice above being of subtle moulded design . Retaining all the original glass which shows good ‘movement’ and character. Fitted all original brass bolts to the doors , brass escutcheons and a working lock and key .
The lower section standing on a shallow plinth base , the twin panelled doors enclosing a corresponding centrally divided interior with a further 6 adjustable mahogany-faced shelves. The bottom of the base fitted with a central hinged cupboard flanked by 2 small drawers with brass knob pulls .
In excellent original condition having achieved a rich colour and patina .
Provenance: a Worcestershire gentleman’s residence.
