A shapely Victorian desk chair crafted in ash and elm, combining comfort, utility and character. The shaped elm saddle seat features attractive interlocking grain, with the boldly turned legs and spindles crafted in ash.
Often referred to as a “captain’s chair”, distinct from the classic smoker’s bow, this type of desk chair was common in Victorian offices and railway stations.
The open curved back and elevated arms provide generous support, making this a particularly comfortable and practical option for everyday use — ideally suited as a desk chair, but equally well placed as a general occasional chair.
Presented in very good antique condition with some attractive aged surface wear. Structurally all solid, clean and ready to place in the home.
English, circa 1880.
