In A Nutshell Antiques and Interiors has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
The interior has its original ruched silk lining below the lid with an oval shaped mirror in the middle. It has a fitted tray which has been re-lined in blue felt and this lifts out to give further storage below. The box comes with a working key.
It is in very good condition for its age and has clearly been well looked after. There are some minor signs of age and use, some light surface marks and a few old repairs but nothing detrimental and overall the piece displays beautifully. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
