Pair Of 19th Century Anglo-indian Ebony Armchairs

A splendid pair of 19th Century Anglo-Indian carved ebony open arm library chairs; finely carved in solid ebony. 
 
From the Galle District, Ceylon (Sri Lanka). The shaped crest rails finely carved with a large central scallop shell flanked by scrolling foliage; above shaped caned backs with styff leaf and reeded frames, having long scrolled arms headed with scroll corbels and terminating within S shaped scrolls. The cane seat with moulded frames and leaf carved front rail with carved large flower head corners. 
 
Raised on tapering reeded legs carved with further foliate carved leaves and buns; terminating in castors. The square tapering rear legs giving the seat a slight incline for comfort. 
 
A similar documented chair is illustrated in A Jaffer, ''Furniture from British Indian and Ceylon: A catalogue of the Collection in Victoria and Albert Museum and the Peabody Essex Museum, 2001 page 378''.
 
Circa 1840. In good condition with an excellent patina.
