Parian Ware “fox & Rabbit” Centerpiece Dish, England, C. 1850

£600    $810    €701
An outstanding example of mid-Victorian Parian ware: a vividly modeled fox crouches on a hollow log, beneath which a rabbit seeks shelter. Framed by an oval border of richly detailed foliage—leaves, acorns and berries in deep relief—this unglazed, creamy-white porcelain dish beautifully mimics sculpted marble.

Unmarked, but the quality of modeling and the choice of an animalier subject clearly link it to Copeland or Minton, pioneers of English Parian. The composition echoes Pierre-Jules Męne’s famed bronze Chasse au Lapin (1833), a motif widely adapted by Victorian ceramicists.
